Na Hong-Jin’s New Film ‘Hope,’ Starring Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Hwang Jung-min and More, Sets Summer 2026 Release

The A-list cast of “Hope,” the hotly-anticipated follow-up from acclaimed South Korean director Na Hong-Jin after his 2016 box office smash hit “The Wailing,” have come together for a stylish studio shoot and unveiled release plans for the feature, which is now in post production.

The cast photo features South Korean stars Hwang Jung-min (“Narcos Saints,” “The Wailing”), Zo In-sung (“Moving”) and Hoyeon (“Disclaimer,” “Squid Game”), plus international faces in Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender (“The Killer,” “12 Years a Slave”), Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl,” “Ex Machina”), Taylor Russell (“Bones and All,” “Waves”) and Cameron Britton (“The Umbrella Academy,” “Mindhunter”).

Billed as Na’s most ambitious project to date, “Hope” is a sci-fi action thriller set in the remote village of Hope Harbor, near the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). When a tiger is suspected to have appeared and local police chief Bum-seok is alerted, it throws the community into chaos. But what begins as a local emergency soon spirals into a deeper, more terrifying mystery, one that forces the town’s residents to confront the unknown.

Hwang reunites with Na to play Bum-seok, while Zo co-stars as Sung-ki, a headstrong local who tracks a dangerous creature into the forest. Making her feature film debut, Hoyeon plays Sung-ae, a principled rookie officer navigating a crisis beyond her training. Meanwhile, Fassbender, Vikander, Russell and Britton appear as extraterrestrials whose arrival in Hope Harbor accelerates the town’s unraveling and deepens the mystery.
The film is now slated for a summer 2026 release, with international sales handled by Plus M Entertainment and UTA Independent Film Group representing North America.

“I’m deeply grateful to the actors for taking on these roles and delivering such dedicated performances,” said Na, who is credited with helping redefine Korean genre cinema thanks to “The Wailing,” “The Yellow Sea” and “The Chaser.” “They conveyed everything this film set out to capture with remarkable talent and focus. I have felt this every time, but their collective presence is truly extraordinary.”

“Hope” has been produced under Na’s production banner Forged Films and Plus M Entertainment.

Alicia Vikander, Victoria Pedretti and Wagner Moura to Star in Rachel Rose’s Debut Film ‘The Last Day’

Alicia Vikander will lead Rachel Rose’s debut film “The Last Day” alongside Victoria Pedretti and Wagner Moura.

The film, which wrapped production in New York in October, follows a writer and mother who confronts her lack of creative purpose and embarks on a journey of rediscovering herself after encountering figures from her past.

“The Last Day” is produced by Lucie Elwes, Rose, Mason Plotts, Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon of Killer Films — the production company behind last year’s “Past Lives” and “May December” — as well as David Kaplan of Kaplan Morrison (“The Brutalist”). Maja Hoffmann and Lucas Hoffmann of Luma Projects serve as executive producers.
CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-represent North American rights on “The Last Day.”
Vikander is an Oscar-winning actor whose credits include “The Danish Girl,” “Ex Machina” and “Tomb Raider.” This year she starred alongside Cate Blanchett and Charles Dance in the political satire “Rumours,” as well as “The Assessment” opposite Elizabeth Olsen. Next up she’ll be seen in the Korean thriller “Hope” and Oliver Assayas’ “The Wizard of the Kremlin.”

Pedretti played Nell Crain in the 2018 Netflix miniseries “The Haunting of Hill House,” and she also starred as Love Quinn opposite Penn Badgley “You.” Her film credits include “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Shirley” and “Origin.” She’ll next be seen in Esteban Arango’s “Ponyboi.”

Moura is best known for taking on the role of Pablo Escobar in the Netflix drug drama “Narcos,” which landed him a Golden Globe nomination. He recently starred in A24’s “Civil War” opposite Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny, and he’s currently shooting the Apple TV+ crime drama “Sinking Spring,” directed by Ridley Scott.

“Tomb Raider” Sequel to Possibly Start Shooting in the Summer

News had come out that a sequel to Tomb Raider was in the works last September, and now we have an update on when production would begin.

According to Geek Vibes Nation, Tomb Raider 2 was originally set to start shooting in April, but now the movie is aiming for a production start this summer, possibly in July or August. We don’t have any news on casting yet, but Alicia Vikander is expected to return as the new incarnation of Lara Croft. Roar Uthaug is also said to be passing on the direcor’s chair, and this time we’re going to have Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) at the helm.

It’s also worth noting that the Coronavirus Outbreak could be a factor when it comes to the movie. MGM had just seen a major delay with No Time to Die, pushing the April release date by 7 months. Now the movie is set to come out in November, competing alongside the release of Marvel’s Eternals.

We don’t have a plot synopsis for the movie yet, but the first movie did give us a tease with Lara wielding her dual pistols. We’re possible going to look more into the secrets behind Lara getting her inheritance, and of course, we should expect more tombs to be raided.

The Tomb Raider sequel is expected to come out March 19, 2021.
