“Tomb Raider” Sequel to Possibly Start Shooting in the Summer

News had come out that a sequel to Tomb Raider was in the works last September, and now we have an update on when production would begin.

According to Geek Vibes Nation, Tomb Raider 2 was originally set to start shooting in April, but now the movie is aiming for a production start this summer, possibly in July or August. We don’t have any news on casting yet, but Alicia Vikander is expected to return as the new incarnation of Lara Croft. Roar Uthaug is also said to be passing on the direcor’s chair, and this time we’re going to have Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) at the helm.

It’s also worth noting that the Coronavirus Outbreak could be a factor when it comes to the movie. MGM had just seen a major delay with No Time to Die, pushing the April release date by 7 months. Now the movie is set to come out in November, competing alongside the release of Marvel’s Eternals.

We don’t have a plot synopsis for the movie yet, but the first movie did give us a tease with Lara wielding her dual pistols. We’re possible going to look more into the secrets behind Lara getting her inheritance, and of course, we should expect more tombs to be raided.

The Tomb Raider sequel is expected to come out March 19, 2021.

‘The Green Knight’ to premiere at SXSW

Sir Gawain’s quest is taking him to Texas.

The South by Southwest Film Festival announced Monday that The Green Knight, David Lowery’s epic retelling of the Arthurian legend, will make its world premiere there March 16.

Dev Patel stars as the eager-to-prove-himself Gawain, who sets out to challenge the eponymous green giant. It’s a reimagining of the old knights-of-the-round-table story, but if the gorgeous first trailer is any indication, Lowery’s version is a dark, moody new take on the classic.

The Green Knight is the latest and perhaps most ambitious effort yet from the director, who previously directed Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, the live-action Pete’s Dragon, and A Ghost Story. Alicia Vikander, Joel Egerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson also star, and the film is scheduled to hit theaters May 29.

The Green Knight joins an already stacked lineup of films slated for SXSW 2020, including the Pete Davidson comedy The King of Staten Island, Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani’s rom-com The Lovebirds, and Kelly Oxford’s Pink Skies Ahead. The festival runs March 13-22.

It is confirmed that Alicia will be attending The South by Southwest Film Festival .

Rumour: Alicia Vikander and director Michelle MacLaren wanted for Spider-Woman movie

Last week a rumour began circulating online suggesting that Sony is in development on a Spider-Woman movie as part of the ‘Sony Universe of Marvel Characters’, and now The Illuminerdi claims to have the inside scoop on the talent the studio wants both in front of and behind the camera.

According to the site, Sony sees Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander (The Danish GirlTomb Raider) as the “ideal” candidate for the role of Jessica Drew, while Emmy Award-winning director Michelle MacLaren (Game of ThronesBreaking Bad) is apparently up for the director’s chair.

While she’s yet to tackle a feature film, MacLaren was previously attached to helm Wonder Woman for Warner Bros., but left the project due to creative differences. She was also attached to direct the comic book adaptation Cowboy Ninja Viking starring Chris Pratt, although that is seemingly now on indefinite hold.

The site also goes on to reveal an alleged logline for Spider-Woman, which reads:

The film will center on Jessica Drew, a young woman who decades ago grew deathly ill after months of exposure to the uranium being used in her father’s scientific experiments. He was forced to use an experimental medicine, which based on the biology of an irradiated spider, to save her. She was sealed away in a genetic accelerator in an attempt to amplify the effects of the serum. Jessica wakes decades later, having not aged much in that time. She also gains a set of powers, along with no memory of who she was in the past.

Alicia Vikander Among Record Number of New BAFTA Members

Alicia Vikander is among the record-setting 559 new members joining BAFTA in 2019. The new members are drawn from a mix of individuals applying directly and those who were invited. In both cases they have to pass strict vetting and fulfill eligibility criteria.

The record 2019 intake will bolster the overall BAFTA membership, which was already at about 8,000. Approximately 1,300 of those members are in the U.S. Being a Brit is not required; the new members are based in 11 different countries, and the wider membership is drawn from 39 territories.

Applications for membership are received first before BAFTA adds people to be invited. That allows the organization to try to ensure a wide spread of people inducted into the British Academy.

“We are fortunate to have a membership that broadly reflects the industry, but we don’t want to rest on our laurels. We know there is systemic under-representation in some parts of the industry,” Emma Baehr, director of awards and membership, told Variety. “We are committed long-term to creating opportunity, and so our aim every year is to make the new membership intake as inclusive as possible, and that’s across different roles in the sectors. And we do also absolutely prioritize individuals from under-represented areas.”
